Richard L. “Dick” Grall 1929—2018
Dick Grall passed away peacefully Monday afternoon, July 2, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. Dick was the second-youngest of eight brothers and sisters that grew up together in Antigo, Wisconsin and graduated from Antigo high school. Dick left Antigo to serve in the Navy where he fought in Japan and Korea. After four years in the Navy, Dick returned stateside, and moved to Rockford in 1956. Here he joined the Rockford Fire Department, where he proudly remained until his retirement in 1985, after 28 years of service. He married Clara Frankovich on August 6, 1960. His family and friends will remember him best for his great affection for the Green Bay Packers, his generosity, his ever-present smile, his many collections and his unmatched pinochle skills. Dick had a long and happy marriage to the love of his life. He is survived by his wife, Clara; children, Linda Wessel, Lori Mack and Larry Grall (Ellen); grandchildren, Molly and Rob Andrews, Eric and Samantha Mack, Evan Mack, Sarah Grall and Luke Grall; great-grandchild, Olivia Mack; sisters, Mary Jean Kaufmann and Dorothy Mohr; and many nieces and nephews. Dick was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Al, Ray, Don and Bob; and sister, Irene. The Grall family would like to thank the staff of OSF Hospital and Hospice for their care and compassion in Dick’s final days.
